Checkmate Loneliness — One Game at a Time! Think you’ve got all the right moves on the chessboard? Here’s your chance to prove it — and make someone’s day while you’re at it! We’re looking for a Spanish-speaking volunteer to share some friendly games (and maybe a few laughs) with a charming elderly gentleman living in a residential aged care home in Kirrawee. He’s a keen chess player who’s ready for a worthy opponent — and some good conversation in Spanish. All you need to bring is your love of the game, a bit of patience, and a friendly smile. So, if you’re ready to mix strategy with stories and turn a simple match into a meaningful connection, we’d love to have you join us! Your impact Volunteering as a social visitor can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated. HammondCare is a provider of The Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme funded by the Australian Government and is established to promote links between elderly people and volunteers in their local community. Requirements 18 years or older • National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare We'd be happy to discuss a suitable time during the week for 30 minutes to one hour visit between 9am and 4pm Monday to Sunday, visits could be weekly to fortnightly depending on your availability.
